Rides | Mt. Agamenticus (York)

This is one of the few places around where you can ride all day and never run out of new territory to explore. I haven't spent enough time there to know the area, so I won't be able to go in to any detail about particular rides. To get there, take I-95 south to the York exit (#1) and take the Chasse Pond Road back north. Turn left onto Mountain Rd. and follow until you come to the Mt. Agamenticus access road on the right. There is a parking lot on the corner. Both sides of the road have extensive trail networks, so pick a side. If you want to ride the mountain side, start out of the back of the parking lot and head up the mountain. You can continue right to the top or work your way around to the right and circumnavigate the mt. There is a rough road on the back side at the bottom that will bring you around if you get lost, and you will get lost! There are two other hills you can ride that offer some outstanding singletrack, but you have to be willing to break off the jeep trail and start exploring. It's well worth your while. If you want to try the other side of the road, a good place to start is to head farther down the mountain road (main road past the access road) and ride a mile or so on dirt until you see a jeep trail descending on the left. This is a nasty entrance with lots of loose rocks to navigate. From here you will work your way to the left and around the ponds and finally (if you figure it out) you will exit about a half mile down the road from where you parked. My only word of advice is bring a compass and take your bearings before you leave. You can get lost for hours. I know. I've done it and I had to use the compass to get out. This is one hell of a great riding area, so don't put it off. Go!
